How to Calibrate an Online Ruler to 100% Actual Size
Screen rulers depend on display pixel density. Follow this step-by-step guide to calibrate your screen using any standard credit card, hardware detection, or diagonal screen dimensions.

How to Calibrate with a Credit Card
Achieves sub-millimeter precision across monitors, phones, and tablets.
Open the Calibration Modal
In the ruler toolbar, tap the scale badge showing your current PPI (e.g. 96.0 PPI). You can also click "Calibrate Actual Size" in the workspace card or press C.
Select the Matching Edge (Phone vs Laptop)
Choose the reference orientation that matches your device:
- On Smartphones (Portrait): Select Short Edge (53.98 mm). The 53.98 mm card height fits on all phone screens without overflowing bezels!
- On Laptops & Desktops: Select either Long Edge (85.60 mm) or Short Edge.
Place Your Card Over the Outline
Hold your physical credit or debit card directly over the dashed outline shown in the dialog. Rest one edge flush with the outline boundary.
Fine-Tune with Slider or Steppers
Drag the slider until the outline matches your physical card. For sub-millimeter precision, tap the +0.1mm or -0.1mm buttons.
Apply & Save
Click "Apply Card Calibration". Your calibrated physical scale persists in browser localStorage for all future visits.

Screen Diagonal Calculation
Calculate exact display PPI using your monitor's diagonal size in inches.
If you know your screen's physical diagonal (e.g. 6.1" on iPhone, 14.0" on a laptop, or 27.0" on a monitor), the algorithm calculates exact pixel density using the Pythagorean formula:
Open the Screen Diagonal tab in the calibration dialog, tap a preset chip, or type your diagonal into the input field.
